Philosophy

The after school care program titled CARES (Children Are Receiving Extended Services) strives to create an enjoyable atmosphere with varying activities, including vigorous play, seasonal art activities, homework time and indoor games. The children are served a nutritious snack and juice each day. Specialized instruction, when possible, is offered for an additional fee.

Admission Policies

Only students enrolled in the St. Philip Neri School will be allowed to enroll in the extended care program. Extended care is a privilege, not a right. Children must obey the rules and regulations in order to continue in CARES. Parents must agree to that condition and support the school in its efforts to provide a safe and enjoyable Catholic environment for the children.

There is a non-refundable deposit of twenty dollars ($25.00) payable to St. Philip Neri School to enroll each family.

There are two payment schedules depending on whether you pick up your child(ren) before 5:00 P.M. or after 5:00 P.M. No compensation will be made for early pick-up. Pick up will be either 5:00 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. according to KYW News time. The daily rate for the actual pick-up time will be applied. If a child is picked up after 6 P.M., a late fee of $5.00 per 15 minute increments will be applied.

Communication

The CARES personnel will communicate with parents weekly. If parentsdesire a conference with a CARES staff member, parents should call the school office or address a note to "C.A.R.E.S." through the school office to arrange the date and time. C.A.R.E.S. staff members cannot conduct conferences during C.A.R.E.S. sessions because his/her attention will be diverted from the children needing supervision. Appointments must be made for non-C.A.R.E.S. time.

Daily Release

Children will be released only to parents of record or to an individual the parent of record designates on the C.A.R.E.S. application. It is the responsibility of the parent of record to keep the school updated on any change. Parents must come in to the building and sign the student out (signature and time).

Discipline Code

All rules and expectations for good behavior that are enforced during the school day as outlined in the St. Philip Neri School Calendar/Handbook are in place during C.A.R.E.S.

Emergency Closing

C.A.R.E.S. will operate as usual until 6:00 P.M. unless school is dismissed early due to inclement weather or other emergency. The administration of C.A.R.E.s. supervisor will notify all parents in either case.

If the school is dismissed early due to snow or other inclement weather, the children will be kept at the school for one hour beyond the school's early dismissal time. Parents using C.A.R.E.s. should arrange for pickup as soon as possible within that time period.

If the main school building is closed due to lack of heat, the children will be moved to the preschool building. If both buildings are evacuated the children will be taken to the Social Hall in Pennsburg via bus (emergency arrangement).
